Giant Fire Breathing Toothless

Giant Fire Breathing Toothless

Toothless gets a pretty impressive ‘fire breathing’ effect with some water and 3x AAA batteries. There is even a glow in the dark spring loaded projectile that it can shoot. Toothless is a nice recreation of his look in Dreamwork’s How to Tame a Your Dragon (more specifically, the Dragon: Defenders of Berk TV series). The wings are articulated, allowing you to pose them at different angles. The rest of the body however, is pretty stiff (since it houses the mechanisms for the dragon breath effect).

Minecraft Ender Dragon Enderdragon Action Figure

Minecraft Ender Dragon Enderdragon Action Figure

Ender Dragons in Minecraft are not easy to encounter –you would need to be really into the game to find them (it’s a whole massive quest to do it). This toy is an excellent plushie version of the massive Ender Dragon. While the game version is very blocky, the plush is softer to the touch (and is generally cuter in design). We love the way that the Ender Dragon plushie still retains the slightly blocky Minecraft visual style that players will instantly recognize.

Imaginext Dragon

Imaginext Dragon

The Imaginext Dragon is a hard plastic toy designed for children ages 3 and above. The legs, paws, arms, and other parts of the dragon’s body have a limited amount of articulation. There is also an action button that will open and close the maw while another will flap the wings.

If you have an Imaginext playset, this dragon will interact with the castle (the castle will have an audio reaction to the approaching dragon), this effect is triggered via infrared signals.

LEGO Ninjago 9450: Epic Dragon Battle

LEGO Ninjago 9450: Epic Dragon Battle

The Ninjago series of LEGO always has some incredibly well designed and over-exaggerated set pieces, and this multi-headed, figure ride-able dragon is no exception. The dragon itself is made from a wide range of pieces, along with a few new pieces for the dragon heads. Making this dragon design even cooler is the fact that it even has some bits of armor-like parts.

Ravensburger Labyrinth Game

The Red Dragon by Safari Ltd

This board game is pretty simple and easy to play, making it a great activity piece even for young children. Just be sure to keep track of the small tokens. The best part about this board game is that the tiles on the board can be moved around –making each play unique and dynamic as there is no pre-set dungeon to explore, which is exactly what one would expect from a Labyrinth.

Playmobil 4838 Giant Dragon with LED Fire

Playmobil 4838 Giant Dragon with LED Fire

This is a long black dragon with red accents with a smooth body and has limited movement for its arms and legs. It has a mount on its back that is used by a rider (the knight comes with the dragon). The LED effect in its mouth and nose makes it seem as if the dragon breathes fire.

Play Visions Dragon Zibbie

Play Visions Dragon Zibbie

This is one of the cuter dragons. As a Zibbie, this dragon comes with a special online code that allows users to log in to a special online service for additional features. The plushie itself is a cute, 7 inch tall fluffy bundle of fun. The dragon is colored green with a maroon colored belly and pink wings (this might be more appropriate as a toy for girls instead of guys).

Plastoy Red Dragon

Plastoy Red Dragon

The Plastoy Red Dragon looks like your typical lair-guarding evil dragon. It has a long body, big wings, a pair of horns, and walks on all four legs. This is a small lightweight toy and has no movable parts (which is not all that fun for playing), but at least the whole thing comes as one giant piece making suitable for play even for young children –not too young though, the horns and tail may be a little too pointy for toddlers.

Plush Soft Toy Large Red Dragon

Plush Soft Toy Large Red Dragon

Hansa’s dragon plush may be soft to the touch, but it is not some cutesy little thing either. The whole toy is a little over half a meter long, making it an excellent centerpiece for any playset. Children will have fun with its’ well detailed (but not articulated) parts. This looks like a traditional red dragon, but the facial features seem a lot more benign. Maintenance for the toy is pretty easy since this is machine washable –still, you may want to discourage children from tossing it around too much.

LEGO Harry Potter 4767: Harry and the Hungarian Horntail

LEGO Harry Potter 4767: Harry and the Hungarian Horntail

This Harry Potter playset recreates one of the events of the Triwizard Cup in the fourth book, Goblet of Fire. In this scene, Harry must get past the Hungarian Horntail dragon, grab the golden egg, and get away. The set comes with a Harry LEGO fig, a small tower that the Horntail is chained to, and of course, the dragon itself. The dragon is brown and sleek, and uses all new LEGO parts to be made. The Harry fig has a magnetic hand for grabbing the golden egg piece.

Steiff Rocky Riding Dragon Plush Toy

The Red Dragon by Safari Ltd

This piece from Steiff is not quite a toy, it is a rocking horse –which is also why this big green dragon kinda looks less like a dragon and more like a horse. The whole thing is pretty solid for children to play with, and the surface is washable. While not a lot of kids may enjoy the concept of a rocking horse, the idea of being able to ride a dragon is going to be something that is difficult to resist.
